Alfons Hörmann is a world-renowned German chef with over 20 years of experience in the culinary field. He has served as the executive chef of three Michelin star restaurants: L’Auberge de l’Ill, Lasserre and Le Cinq.

Achievements

Alfons Hörmann is the author of 5 books on how to cook. It includes a book on Mastering the Art of Soup, Decoding the Science of Flavor, and two more books about creating your best meal. The last two books have won numerous awards, including 3rd place at the 2012 Food & Wine Magazine Gourmet Cooking School and the Readers’ Choice Award for “Best New Book in Category” by the International Association of Culinary Professionals.

Hörmann was knighted in the Legion of Honor, President’s Award for Advisors for the International Association of Culinary Professionals, and named Chef of the Year by the French government.

He was also included in Yacht World Magazine’s list of ‘100 Most Invited People to Sail on a Yacht,’ Vanity Fair’s ‘International Best Dressed List,’ and Esquire’s ‘Best Dressed Men in the World.’ He was also included in {Esquire’s Best Dressed Men in the World list in 2005. Learn more

Trends

Hörmann has been featured in many international magazines and newspapers, including Time and Business Week. He was also voted on the list of ‘People Who Most Influenced Food Trends of the Past Century’ by GQ.

Hörmann also created new cooking techniques that were then incorporated into recipes in his cookbook series Knowing How which includes Mastering the Art of Soup and Decoding the Science of Flavor.* Hörmann believes that nose-to-tail cooking is going to be a trend. Since most of the muscles are utilized in the shoulder, pork shoulder can be prepared into different cuts of meat for various sauces. It can also be designed into jellies, terrines, and pates for sweet or savory uses.

Alfons Hörmann has been the executive chef of three Michelin star restaurants: L’Auberge de l’Ill, Lasserre and Le Cinq. He was also the personal chef for Prince Albert II of Monaco for six years and created a restaurant in their home.

In 1996, Alfons Hörmann became the executive chef of Le Moulin de Mougins, which is situated in Mougins, France. The Michelin Guide awarded this restaurant two stars.
